About the Volunteering

"Solidarity- Sustainability in Action" is an international team volunteering project which will be at Outward Bound International Youth Center in Sovata, Romania for 15 young adults from different European Countries. The project will be in Transylvania, a multi-cultural and multi-lingual region of Romania. Sovata is a small mountain resort, that has a famous heliothermic lake - Bear lake, it has several other salty and sweet lakes and salty rocks, and it has approximately 10000 inhabitants. The locals speak mostly Romanian and Hungarian and young people speak English too.

The volunteering program contains 4 main elements which are:

- Service learning: Creating herbs garden, building outdoor furniture from Euro pallets, building a dock, Harvesting

- Solidarity building: Team building activities, city bound, cultural activities, common program with local youth 

- Skill development: Overnight expedition, climbing, reconnection with nature, building a sailboat from canoes

- Have fun: Visiting the Red lake and Bicaz Gorge. 


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Young people aged between 18-30 years old;

- You are living in one of the European Union countries, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina;

Interested to live, work and develop together with other young people from Europe;

you like nature, being outdoors, facing challenges, and working with woods;

- Able to understand and speak in English language;

- Eager to discover and see the natural beauty of Transylvania. 


Expenses and Benefits

Accommodation and food will be provided in the Outward Bound Youth Center in Sovata.

Participants will sleep in 3-5 bedded rooms with common bathrooms.

The food will be prepared by the host organisation kitchen staff and served 3 times a day. 

Each participant is entitled to receive receive 6 EUR per day as a pocket money.

- Participants from EU countries should get the European Health Insurance Card, for non-EU residents, they will receive HENNER insurance.

Your international travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the distance between your home and Romania according to the following limits:

  • for travel distance between 100 and 499 km: 180 EUR / person, +30 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 500 and 1999 km: 275 EUR / person, +45 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 2000 and 2999 km: 360 EUR / person, +50 EUR extra for Green travel.

  • IMPORTANT: keep all your travel documents! Online boarding passes and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!
  • IMPORTANT: Please send your travel proposition per e-mail to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!

- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project where you are expected to self-assess your own learning and you can add it to your CV. 


Timeline

Application deadline: 1st of September 2024, (23:59)

Arrival day: 23th of September 2024 

Departure day: 8th of October 2024

Note: You have 4-6 extra days in total that you can use before or after the project to travel around Romania. If you wish to do so, bare in mind that you need to cover the costs for your accommodation & food. Late arrivals or early departures are not allowed.
