Can We Change? 5.0 | Two-week ESC Volunteering project in Italy (Fully Funded)

An exciting opportunity for 8 young people from all around Europe to join a short-term volunteering project for two weeks in in Siderno, Calabria, Italy from 25 November to 9 Dwcember 2024.  "Can We Change? 5.0" is an ESC Team volunteering project to promote the concept of European Citizenship. This project is organised by A.S.D. Basket YMCA Siderno - Associazione Cristiana dei Giovani (APS) and funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union. 

About the project

This project aims to offer a fully immersive experience in Siderno, Calabria. Volunteers will uncover the hidden gems of this diverse region and experience the warmth of its friendly community. By bringing together locals and European volunteers, we encourage participants to share their unique skills, experiences, and perspectives while collaborating on activities that meet key community needs (including environmental, intergenerational, and social initiatives for all ages). The concept of European citizenship is often overlooked and remains unfamiliar to many here. Can you help us change that by demonstrating the importance of volunteering abroad? This project is more than just a cultural exchange—it's a journey to challenge stereotypes and promote open dialogue. We share not only a common heritage but also a responsibility to foster unity and celebrate our unique contributions. Let’s build connections, dismantle barriers, and explore the common threads that unite us all.

Eligibility | Who can apply?

- 8 Young people aged between 18-29 years old from from all over Europe including Italy.

- Able to participate actively for the whole duration of the project.

- The volunteer may come from any culture, minority, ethnicity, race or religion.

- Participants with fewer opportunities who might be suffering from rejection and discrimination, facing economic obstacles.

Expenses and Benefits

- Volunteers will be accommodated at an apartment in Siderno, Calabria equipped with all the comforts will be provided by the host orgnaisation. 

- The apartment will be equipped with shared rooms and bathrooms, heating system, electricity, water, WiFi, kitchen and shared living room. The apartment is located 10 minutes, walking distance, from the host organisation main offices.

- Participants will receive a pocket money and food allowance to cover their personal expenses during the project. 

- Your travel expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum fixed amount as following:

• from 10 - 99 km: 23,00€ (Standard travel) 
• from 100 - 499 km: 180,00€ (Standard travel)  / 210,00€ (Green travel)
• from 500 - 1999 km: 275,00€ (Standard travel) / 320,00€ (Green travel)
• from 2000 - 2999 km: 360,00€ (Standard travel) / 410,00€ (Green travel)
• from 3000 - 3999 km: 530,00€ (Standard travel) / 610,00€ (Green travel)

- The volunteers will have an option of obtaining a Youthpass certificate by YMCA organisation to prove their newly acquired skills & competencies.
