An open call for youth activists, youth workers, trainers, and volunteers who are interested in supporting young refugees and migrants to apply for the training course "Positive StoryTellers" which takes place at the European Youth Center in Strasbourg, France from 24-30 November 2024. This training course is organised by "YSRN + IParticipate NGO" and co-funded by the youth department of the Council of Europe.
About the training
The aim of this training session is to properly equip participants to create positive narratives that ensure young refugees and migrants feel valued, accepted, and have a sense of belonging in their new communities. Additionally, it aims to help make these communities welcoming and inclusive, free from discrimination, where diverse cultures can be shared and expressed openly, and where the contributions of migrants and refugees to society are recognised and celebrated.
The main objectives of this course are:
- Participants connect, exchange experiences and knowledge, and feel motivated and inspired to take action.
- Participants enhance their knowledge, awareness, and understanding of key narratives and stories about migrants in their specific contexts.
- Participants gain a deep understanding of the main human rights issues affecting refugees, migrants, and host communities.
- Participants acquire the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to work with young people to create impactful stories that promote rights-based approaches and reshape the narrative around refugees and migrants.
- Participants develop practical, achievable plans and proposals to carry out storytelling projects or initiatives that will positively influence perceptions of refugees and migrants in their own contexts.
- Participants gain an understanding of the Council of Europe's role in supporting refugees and migrants, including key tools, approaches, and policies.

- Partner Countries Neighbouring the EU Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Russian Federation, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine.
Expenses and Benefits
- Accommodation and three meals per day are offered by the Youth Department of the Council of Europe at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg.
- The European Youth Centres are accessible to people with disabilities and can take measures to accommodate specific needs of participants in this respect.
- The is an enrolment fee for the study sessions € 50 per participant. The fee is deducted from the refund of travel expenses after the project.
Note: Only the participants who attend the entire training course can get the travel reimbursements.

How to apply?
All candidates must fill in this application form in English no later than 22nd of October 2024.
- The organisers will choose up to 35 participants based on the criteria mentioned above. Efforts will be made to achieve a balanced representation of genders, geographic regions, diverse experiences, cultural backgrounds, as well as organisations, institutions, and projects. A waiting list might also be created.
