This program is funded by The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State.

About SUSI Summer Exchange Program 2025

Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for Student Leaders are intensive five week academic programs designed for foreign undergraduate student leaders to improve their understanding of the United States while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills. The Institute will include a four-week academic residency component and a one-week integrated study tour.  The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities within the local community.  During the academic residency, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in educational and cultural activities outside of the classroom.

Eligibility | Who can apply?

-  The program is open to students from many countries, but check specific requirements for your country.

- Be aged between 18-25 and an undergraduate student having at least one semester left remaining in their studies after the end of the SUSI program;

- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, there is no English certificate is required;

Demonstrate leadership through academic work, community service, and extracurricular activities.

- Have little or no prior travel or study experience in the United States;

Indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States;

- Be mature, responsible, independent, confident, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful, and inquisitive;

Eligible to receive a United States J-1 visa;

- Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.


Expenses and Benefits

All participants will receive:

- Round airfare tickets from their countries to USA and back.

Housing will be in shared or single university dorms on campus or full-service hotels within walking distance of most classroom activities. 

- Participants will have access to group meals, a university meal plan, and a kitchen for personal cooking. They are expected to share communal spaces respectfully and take responsibility for maintaining them.

A modest stipend is sometimes provided to cover personal expenses during the stay.

Costs for various cultural activities, field trips, and social events organized as part of the program are also covered.

-  Basic health insurance is included for the duration of the program.

- Invitation letter for applying for J-1 Visa , Visa fee is covered by the program as well.


Timeline

Application deadline: Different depends on your country some countries in October 2024, November 2024, December 2024, or January 2025.

Program dates: The program will tentatively take place from June 21 to July 26, 2025. Any changes will be shared at the time of selection.
