About the Program
In today's world social media and technologies like AI and Machine Learning have amplified the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and polarised narratives. This has led to the distortion of important topics such as migration, climate change, social justice, identity politics, and political ideologies, often promoting divisive and exclusionary viewpoints. Artistic and creative expression are essential in challenging these stereotypes and inaccuracies, offering space for nuanced, human-centered stories that counter polarized discourse. Artists and cultural practitioners play a key role in building trust and protecting the credibility of democratic institutions.
This program focuses on using artistic and narrative strategies to highlight diverse perspectives. Through creative expression, it aims to bridge divides, reshape public awareness, and promote inclusive, equitable social, cultural, and democratic values.
The program will explore five unique storytelling landscapes:
1. Digital Arenas: This area includes social media, online platforms, and virtual environments where stories can quickly reach a global audience. It will focus on developing strategies for inclusive and ethical storytelling online, tackling issues like misinformation and AI, and reclaiming digital spaces for authentic narratives.
2. Creative Currents: This landscape examines how artistic and cultural expressions shape narratives both within and outside traditional cultural institutions. It will explore the evolving role of artists and creative practitioners in using inclusive storytelling to engage modern audiences, highlighting diverse narratives and lived experiences in broader cultural discussions.
3.Neural Pathways: This strand focuses on the human body and mind as intimate storytelling spaces, connecting art with neuroscience to evoke empathy, resilience, and connection. It will explore how artistic experiences influence the brain, promoting empathy and emotional understanding that bridges cultural divides.
4. Civic Stages: These are the stories and values that form collective identities and enhance community resilience. The focus will be on how storytelling in civic contexts—through art, media, and community narratives—can build shared values, strengthen social bonds, and mobilize voices around common objectives, celebrating the cultural heritage that brings communities together.
5. Public Places: This involves parks, plazas, and urban areas as venues for visible, interactive storytelling that engages with daily life. It will emphasize creative placemaking through murals, installations, and performances, encouraging community interaction and promoting dialogue, inclusivity, and social cohesion in shared public spaces.
