ECB Traineeships 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany (Paid)

An excellent opportunity for students and graduates who are a EU nationals to apply for the European Central Bank traineeship offers and graduate opportunities in Frankfurt am Main, Germany from a period between 3 to 6 months with a possible extension to up to 12 months in total. Trainees receive a monthly grant from €1,170 to €2,120 depending on the tasks and their qualifications plus an accommodation allowance.

About the Traineeships

The European Central Bank offers 4 different programs for students including PhD and graduates in its headquarter in Frankfurt, Germany. The four programs are:

Program 1:  PhD Traineeship in the Directorate General Economics – Supply Side, Labour and Surveillance Division

Program 2: Student Research Assistant Traineeship Programme - Financial Research

Program 3: Traineeship in the Information Governance Division

Program 4: Traineeships in Banking Supervision

As a trainee you will gain an insight into the ECB’s activities and contribute to the ECB’s mission. The tasks performed by you as a trainee are supervised and vary according to the unit you join. Some examples include research, drawing up draft reports, compiling statistical data, performing operational tasks and participating in ad hoc studies.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Postgraduate students, including PhD students, or recent graduates in the field of economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, information science, computer science, knowledge, archives records, management, librarianship or business administration data science or a related field;

- Be at least 18 years and a national of an EU Member State or of an acceding country;

awareness of, and an interest in, the role and functioning of the ECB;

A good knowledge of the MS Office package, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;

An advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

You have not been an ECB trainee or worked for the ECB.


Expenses and Benefits

- The trainee grant is the exact amount of €1,170 per month. The trainee grant is increased to €2,120 per month for trainees who have completed at least two years of PhD study and who apply for a traineeship vacancy that requires such a level of qualification.

- Trainees coming from  a place  which far from the ECB with more than 50 km, ECB will pay for your accommodation for the duration of your stay. You can either stay in one of the residences with which the ECB has a special arrangement or receive a lump sum for temporary accommodation and move into your own temporary private accommodation.

The ECB shall reimburse travel expenses incurred in the context of an external assignment, provided that these relate to travel of more than 50 kilometres.

The ECB shall provide insurance for trainees against accidents at work under the conditions laid down in the insurance policy that the ECB holds with an insurance company.
