About Maison des Bateleurs - Solidarités Jeunesses

Maison Des Bateleurs – Solidarités Jeunesses is a regional delegation of the Solidarités Jeunesses movement, which was created in 1993. Solidarités Jeunesses is a popular education movement that promotes and builds peace, solidarity and social inclusion through volunteering and international mobility projects.

The aim of the Maison des Bateleurs is to break down social, cultural and intergenerational barriers through living and doing together. Through our actions, we want to create new dynamics in rural areas by allowing French and international volunteers, young people welcomed and people involved in the association to live and work together while respecting the environment and human beings without any discrimination.

About the volunteering project

SJ/ESC01 - The winter garden- Preparing for spring" is a Teams Volunteering project which will take place in Montendre, France. Sustainable development, particularly permaculture, is at the heart of Maison des Bateleurs-Solidarités Jeunesses’ values and activities. The association has been actively creating an environmental pole that includes initiatives such as a plant protection basin, dry toilets, compost systems, an organic garden, and the sustainable use of local natural resources. These efforts reflect their commitment to ecological practices and community-driven sustainability.

During this work camp, participants will engage in collective life and intercultural exchanges while gaining hands-on experience in sustainable development. The main tasks will include maintaining the vegetable garden through activities like sowing, watering, and harvesting, as well as preparing the soil for spring planting. Participants will also care for compost bins, the plant protection basin, and structures such as the henhouse, insect hotel, and bat nests. This experience fosters awareness of sustainable practices through intergenerational learning and knowledge sharing.
