An open call for young human rights advocates and activists from all over the world to join the Youth Rights Academy in Geneva, Switzerland from 7-11 July 2025. The Youth Rights Academy is organized by OHCHR and Education Above All. Organizers will cover all participants costs related to the travel and stay in Geneva.
About OHCHR-EAA Youth Rights Academy
Applications are now open for the 2025 OHCHR -EAA Youth Rights Academy in Switzerland. The Youth Rights Academy is organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and Education Above All (EAA). The aim of this programme is to strengthen the leadership capacities and skills of young human rights advocates and practitioners, particularly in contexts of conflict and insecurity. Participants will explore the concept of youth rights and issues, and will be empowered to use advocacy to promote human rights in their communities.
Scope of work
The participants of the Youth Rights Academy will be expected to:
- Actively cooperate with OHCHR and EAA on the logistical aspects related to the organization of travel to Geneva and participation in the academy, including by providing all requested information and documents in an accurate and timely manner.
- Commit to attend all academy sessions, complete given assignments, actively participate in the discussions and extra curricular activities.
- Use knowledge and skills acquired through the academy to design human rights initiatives to be implemented in their communities.
- Stay in touch with EAA and OHCHR to provide reports and updates on the implementation of the said initiatives after completing the academy.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
Applications are open for young human rights advocates from all over the world who fit with the following requirements;
- Aged between 18-30 years old (as of 7 July 2025).
- Having at least 2 years of experience in advocating for human rights, including the rights of young people, at local, national, regional, or international level.
- Providing of a reference letter from a professional or personal contact confirming the candidate’s advocacy and human rights work (template here).
- Having a proficiency in English, since all the training sessions will be held in English, with no interpretation provided.
- The participants will be able to dedicate five full days (on average, 10-11 hours per day) to the in-person participation in the academy, including the training sessions and the extracurricular activities.
Expenses and Benefits
- Organisers will cover the costs of participants related to the international travel to and from Geneva.
- Costs of board and lodging during the academy will be covered by the organisers as well.
