KAI-X Summer Research Internship Program 2025 in South Korea (Fully Funded)

An exciting opportunity for Bachelor's and Master's students from all over the world to apply for 7-week summer research program at KAIST Advanced Institute for Science-X in South Korea. (KAI-X) supports round-trip airfare, dormitory costs, and living expenses support. Selected interns will have Korean Cultural trip at least once during their internship.

About KAI-X Summer Research Internship

KAIST Advanced Institute for Science-X (KAI-X) is accepting applications for the 2025 Summer KAI-X Research Internship Program, providing support to undergraduate(3rd/4th) and graduate(master course) students who want to experience research activity in the laboratory at KAIST, Korea. Applicants interested in the field of natural science including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Brain&Cognitive Science, and Medical Science are invited to participate in this program.

The internship will take place at Research Labs of KAIST Campus at Daejeon, South Korea including the following events

- Opening ceremony

- Campus tour

- Final presentation

- Result report submission

- Banquet

- Korean Culture trip(at least once)

Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Undergraduate students from all over the world in year 3 and year 4 (or equivalent) 

- Graduate students in Master’s degree programme from all over the world.

- PhD students enrolled in a doctoral degree are not eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria

- Outstanding academic performance

- Strong interest in research studies. 

- Interest in interdisciplinary studies

- High English proficiency

- Mature and independent

Expenses and Benefits

- The permissible support encompasses the actual expenses for round-trip airfare, with a maximum limit of 1 million KRW.

- Interns will receive dormitory costs, which should not exceed 500,000 KRW.

-  Additionally, a living expense support of 500,000 KRW will be provided.

Note: Prior to checking in at the dorms, all attendees are required to undergo a lung X-ray test in your country. If tested in Korea, individuals are responsible for covering the USD 50 fee for the checkup.

Summer Research Programme: 1st of July  – 16th of August, 2025

Application requirements

1. Application form: Please refer to [application form] file. It includes lab list. Submit it in excel format

2. Essay (activity plan): Write an essay of up to 1,200 words, explaining your motivation for applying, your choice of labs, and your plans within those labs.(essay form attached)

3. Transcript: Only official English documentation, issued within the last 3 months by your institute or a reliable institute, is accepted. Official stamps or signatures from the person in charge are required.

4. Proof of Enrollment: Only official English documentation, issued within the last 3 months by your institute is accepted. Official stamps or signatures from the person in charge are required.

5. Reference letter: The recommendation letter must include the name of the student being recommended, the program name (2025 Summer KAI-X Research Internship Program), the date of recommendation, the signature of the recommender(professor), and the affiliation of the recommender(professor). Please submit the reference letter along with all other documents. There are no exceptions in any case.
