An excellent opportunity for undergraduate students from all over the world to apply for the The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program of Purdue University for a period of 11 weeks. Selected students from USA and other countries will conduct research on either the Purdue's West Lafayette or Indianapolis campus under the guidance of a faculty, graduate student, or postdoctoral mentor. This fellowship offers generous stipend, housing allowance, and travel assistance.
About the fellowship
Purdue University Summer Research Fellowship is a unique, comprehensive 11-week research experience is provided by the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, which aims to inspire undergraduate students to pursue further education and career prospects in research. The chosen students will work with a faculty member, graduate student, or postdoctoral mentor to do research on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette or Indianapolis.
In addition to being a compensated position, this competitive fellowship offers weekly professional development workshops and seminars to assist participants improve their technical and communication abilities. A student research symposium, where participants present their findings, marks the program's conclusion. All participants must submit a final report detailing their outcomes to both their project advisor and the Engineering Undergraduate Research Office (EURO).
This is a list of research projects that may have opportunities for undergraduate students. Please note that it is not a complete list of every SURF project. Undergraduates will discover other projects when talking directly to Purdue faculty.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Applicant must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Purdue university , another U.S. institution, or an international institution.
- Student must have been completed at least one semester/quarter by the time of SURF application.
- Having undergraduate enrollment for at least one academic semester/quarter following the finishing of the SURF program.
- Applicants must be a rising junior or senior. While preference is given to rising juniors and seniors, this preference is waived for Purdue-affiliated students.
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 or equivalent at the time of application.
- Demonstrate the ability to actively participate in the majority of program activities.
- Requests for alternate start dates, up to one week post-program commencement, can be accommodated with faculty permission.
Expenses and Benefits
- Selected student will receive a generous stipend of $6500 which will be distributed to you in equal installments each two weeks for your dedicated participation in the 11-week immersive research program.
- All Non-Purdue students receive the housing allowance as $2500 . For Purdue students, they must apply by the priority deadline to be considered. If selected, they will be notified in their offer letter and the amount added to their bi-weekly compensation.
- A travel allowance to campus will only be granted to those participating in SURF at a location other than their home university (e.g., Non-Purdue students and Purdue) .
- Selected students will have access to the faculty and graduate student mentors who offer valuable guidance, ensuring a supportive and enriching research experience.
- Present your research findings at the esteemed SURF Symposium, which provides a forum for you to interact with professionals, academics, and peers.
- Engage in activities that are intended to strengthen relationships with other participants and promote teamwork and camaraderie to experience a lively social community.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and networking events to meet peers, researchers, and professionals; this will help you build enduring relationships and grow your professional network.
