An excellent opportunity for university graduates from all over the world who are interested in digital transformation and sustainability to attend the Summer School on Digital and Green Transitions in Maastricht, Netherlands for 4.5 days. The project is organised by UNU-MERIT (United Nations University-Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology) and funded by Global Gateway initiative of the European Union.

About the Summer School

The summer school introduces sustainable digital transformation, covering topics like emerging digital technologies, digital farming, and e-waste management through lectures and interactive sessions. Participants will learn relevant terminology, explore academic literature, and examine AI's role in sustainability. By the end of this event Participants will:

  1. Understand terminology related to digital transformation and sustainability.
  2. Analyze the role of digital transformation in society and the economy.
  3. Compare sector-specific impacts of digital transformation.
  4. Apply digital transformation principles to workplace challenges.

The summer course offers the following activities:

 

  • - Introduction and goal setting session;  
  • - Daily lectures;  
  • - Daily interactive sessions;  
  • - Peer-learning activities;  
  • - Mandatory and optional reading materials;  
  • - Closing session.  

Readings: For each lecture, one to two compulsory readings are identified, complemented with a list of additional readings for the interested reader. Selected participants will have access to all reading materials through the ITU Academy platform.  



Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Application are open for candidates from all over the world

- Holding a Bachelor’s degree (Social Sciences, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Political Science, etc.).

- Fluency in English is required since it is the main language of the event.

- Individuals working on digital transformation or sustainability (preference for government officials and policymakers from developing countries).

- Applicants from public, private, and non-governmental entities in the field of digital development and technology.

- Gender balance and geographic diversity will be considered during the selection process.


Expenses and Benefits

This summer school is funded by the generous support of the Global Gateway initiative of the European Union. 

- The participation is free of charge

ITU will cover training costs, accommodation for 5 nights, meals and training activities.

Gain expertise in emerging digital technologies, digital farming, e-waste management, and the intersection of AI and sustainability.

- Network with peers and experts.

At the end of the course, participants will receive an ITU and UNU-MERIT certificate of completion.  

- Participate or their organisations are responsible for covering the costs of travel expenses to and from their home country to city, country as well as visa expenses and insurance.
