About Blue Book Traineeship
The European Commission Blue book traineeship offers paid administrative or translation traineeships for university graduates, providing valuable work experience within the EU institutions. These traineeships last for a total of five months and are offered twice a year, with start dates on either the beginning of March or the the beginning of October. Trainees have the opportunity to work in various departments and services of the European Commission, as well as its agencies, primarily in Brussels but also in Luxembourg and other parts of the European Union.
These traineeships are highly competitive and attract applicants from diverse academic backgrounds who are passionate about European affairs and eager to gain practical experience in EU policymaking and administration. The traineeships offer a unique opportunity for young professionals to develop their skills, expand their networks, and contribute to the work of the European institutions.Your work's nature will rely on the service you are given. You may, for example, work in the areas of environmental policy, human resources, translation, etc.
What does a trainee's daily work consist of?
- Attending and organising meetings, working groups, and public hearings
- Researching, drafting and editing documentation – including reports and consultations
- Answering citizens’ inquiries
- Supporting the management of projects
- Translating, revising translations or researching terminology
Eligibility
Blue Book traineeship offers +/- 1000 traineeships positions available per each session
- The Blue book traineeship programme is open to all eligible candidates whatever their citizenship, regardless of their sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, religion or belief, membership of a national minority, disability, age or sexual orientation
- Applicant must have a standard 3-year higher education degree, corresponding to a complete Bachelor’s cycle, or equivalent.
- There is no age limit for participating in the traineeships programme.
- Have no prior work experience of any kind, in excess of 6 weeks in any EU institution, body or agency.
- Have a very good knowledge of languages:
For the administrative traineeship – you must have a very good knowledge of two EU official languages, one of which must be a working language: English, French or German at C1 or C2 level. and a second one at B2 level at least as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. For non-EU nationals, only one procedural language is required at C1 or C2 level.
For the translation traineeship - you must be able to translate into your mother language from two other official EU languages (French, English or German)
