CMPF Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners 2025 in Florence, Italy (Funded)

An exciting opportunity for journalists and media Practitioners from EU countries and the neighboring countries to the EU to apply for the EUI Center for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) 2025 Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners which will take place in Florence, Italy from 23-27 June 2025.  The CMPF offers up to 24 scholarships for 24 participants to attend summer school this year in Florence.


About CMPF Summer School 2025

The CMPF Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners returns for its 13th edition, focusing on the impact of Big Tech, AI, and media regulation on the future of journalism. As technology companies continue to reshape the media landscape, this program will explore how journalists can innovate and maintain sustainable business models while ensuring media freedom and democratic accountability.

Renowned scholars and experts will lead discussions on regulatory interventions, technological advancements, and strategies to balance journalism and corporate power. A unique aspect of this year’s edition is Practice Day, featuring a creative expression lab where journalists and artists will collaborate on technology-assisted storytelling.

Eligibility | Who can apply?

- The Summer School is open to early and mid-career journalists, media professionals, and stakeholders in the news industry. 

- Applicants should be coming from one of the following countries: 27 EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Armenia, Tunisia.

- Participants should be fluent in English since the working language is English.

Participants will be selected based on application quality and diversity criteria. 


Expenses and Benefits

The CMPF offers up to 24 scholarships in the following categories:

- CMPF Summer School Programme Scholarships (20 scholarships)

Available to applicants from: 27 EU countries, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Armenia, Tunisia, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein

The CMPF scholarship covers:

- Travel expenses (up to a set ceiling)
- 5 nights of accommodation
- Tuition fees, course materials, access to EUI library & Wi-Fi
- Social activities, lunches & coffee breaks on lecture days


Widening Countries Programme Scholarships (up to 4 scholarships)

Available to applicants from Widening Countries;

- Provides €1000 for travel and accommodation
- Includes tuition, materials, social activities, one cocktail & one dinner

Important: Attendance is mandatory. A daily signature is required; missing a day results in a €200 grant reduction per absence.
