About Częstochowa
Częstochowa is one of the most recognisable cities in Poland, a strong economic centre, and a natural leader of the sub-region. It lies on the Warta River, in the picturesque Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, hiding treasures of nature and culture, at the confluence of Lesser Poland, Silesia, and Greater Poland. Its most famous site - the Pauline Monastery of Jasna Góra, with the image of the Virgin Mary - is visited by millions of pilgrims from 80 countries worldwide every year.
Today's Częstochowa is a large academic city with a well-developed infrastructure and socio-economic base, a cultural centre drawing on tradition and history, and a calendar rich in events. Due to the presence of the national shrine at Jasna Góra, called the Spiritual Capital of Poland, it is a place where tradition and culture intertwine daily with the rhythm of life of the modern city and its inhabitants.
